What kind of Church is Trinity?

Trinity Church, Bedlington, is a Local Ecumenical Partnership, with its roots in three traditions of Church - Presbyterian and Churches of Christ (these two are now both part of the United Reformed Church) and Methodist. The three churches which form Trinity came together in 1980. Trinity is a fellowship of Christian people which exists to respond to the good news of God's love for us and to make it known to others by endeavouring to live our lives in a Christ-like way.

While we have our roots in Reformed and Methodist traditions, now we are home to many people who came from other traditions, so we're very open and accepting - whoever you are, you'll find a warm welcome.

We have committed ourselves:-

  • To proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ in the sharing of worship  and sacrament
  • To seek to develop new forms of worship which will be meaningful to ourselves and others in a changing world
  • To encourage each other by prayer and study, so that we may be  effective in expressing our faith to others
  • To seek to live in such a way as to draw others to follow the ways of Christ
  • To respond as individuals and collectively, as a fellowship, to the needs of individuals, our community and the wider world
  • To co-operate with other Christian communities and people of good will in serving others.

We are a member church within the South East Northumberland Ecumenical Area, which stretches from Blyth and Morpeth in the south all the way to Alnmouth. The Area has within it 13 Methodist churches, 3 United Reformed Churches and 5 Ecumenical Partnership churches like Trinity. The churches share the resources of ministry and give care to one another.

Our style of worship at Trinity is informal, and is led by different people - sometimes our own Minister, Revd Greg Thompson, sometimes other preachers from different traditions.

We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion every Sunday during our service.

We sing a variety of hymns and songs.

We have

  • a Service of Holy Communion every Sunday Morning
  • Junior Church (enthusiastic young people who attend regularly)
  • A Team of Pastoral Visitors
  • Bible Study— meets occasionally - see web page for details
  • Choir  - meets weekly and regularly goes out into the community entertaining
  • Trinity is part of Bedlingtonshire Churches Together
  • Social Committee to organise fund raising events; concerts etc.
  • A thriving Ladies Group
  • A monthly Saturday Coffee Morning
  • A Property Committee

We want to get better at:

  • Communication -  so everyone inside and outside Trinity knows what's going on

  • Participation -  so the whole congregation is encouraged to take part, especially in the church's worship life: reading, welcoming people in the vestibule, serving communion  and reading from the bible, taking part in Church Family services, etc.
  •
  • Praying -  so everyone feels they are encouraged in prayer

  • Outreach into the Community -  so we use our physical geographical position on Bedlington Front Street to reach out to our community in all kinds of ways
